The first Strawberry festival was held in 1974 to promote the opening of The Pasadena Historical Museum, a house located
near the outskirts of the enormous Pasadena High School campus. Strawberries have a long standing history in Pasadena,
and at one time even gave the city the honor of being the "Strawberry Capital of the South." They were introduced after the
1900 Galveston Storm, whose effects reached all the way inland to Pasadena. The citizens were not only charged with
taking care of their own, but many former residents of Galveston were flooding into the small city. Clara Barton, founder of
the American Red Cross was in Texas to help with the devastation, and knew that Pasadena was in trouble. She imported
hundreds of Strawberry plants, which became a quick cash crop, and saved the people. Now the Strawberry Festival is held
every year to celebrate the rebirth of a struggling small town into a large community of happy families, friends and neighbors.

The ladies of Madison Job Senior Center.
These ladies did a really great job! They did several skits, one right after the other. i don't know how they kept up in that heat!
Food and Vendors
There were so many vendors, and pretty much every kind of food you can think of. The chicken on a stick was the best.
Acts and Shows
Nearly every half hour a new show was going on. Above are, Wayne and Wingnut (funny!) Dr. Rocks Dino Adventure, Bayou
Big Band (very cool!) and Doug Witaker.
Inside Children's Pavillion
There were a lot of great things for kids! Pictured here are Armand Bayou Nature Center Crafts, petting zoo, children's hospice
booth, and elsie the cow.
Dorp Express Puppet Show
Performed 6 shows at the festival, and were a big hit. Can you believe how wide that boy can open his mouth? He must really
want that chicken sandwich.
